How Nelson Women Paved the Way for Suffrage
In support of the 125th anniversary of Women’s Suffrage in Aotearoa, this exhibition explores the role of education as one of the stepping stones to Suffrage.
It will celebrate the lives and achievements of women like Kate Edgar and Mary Ann Muller whose significant contributions paved the way for women to win the vote in September 1893. These women were trailblazers, renegades and their extraordinary lives have never been memorialised but their story should inspire everyone.
Further background information about the Suffrage 125 celebrations can be found on the Ministry for Women website.
