Looking Good: Retouching in Early Photography

  • Nelson Provincial Museum 270 Trafalgar Street Nelson, Nelson, 7010 New Zealand (map)

PHOTOSHOP AND PHOTO MANIPULATION ARE JUST ABOUT AS OLD AS PHOTOGRAPHY ITSELF

Join the Museum's Senior Curator Of Photography Darryl Gallagher as he explores how photo manipulation and retouching were an important part of early photography portraiture. Just like today, skin blemishes and freckles were commonly removed and body shapes were also sometimes altered. Not surprisingly this photo treatment was popular and even expected by those purchasing photos in the 19th and 20th Centuries.

This informative curators talk will be illustrated with photographic images from the Museums vast photographic collection.
