Floor talk: TAKU RAU TĪKUMU
He whetū i te rangi, he whetū ki te whenua
A star in the sky, a star on the earth
This Saturday, join exhibition curators Hamuera Manihera and Naomi Aporo for a special floor talk exploring Taku Rau Tīkumu: He whetū i te rangi, he whetū ki te whenua / A star in the sky, a star on the earth.
Together, they will delve into the stories, taonga, and relationships at the heart of the exhibition, which traces the enduring connection between people and alpine landscapes through tīkumu, a resilient mountain plant bound to generations of knowledge, skill, and care.
Featuring a significant collection of tīkumu taonga, the exhibition brings together mātauranga Māori, science, oral histories, photographs, and rare records from across Aotearoa.
Come along to hear more about the research, relationships, and curatorial thinking behind this rich and layered exhibition.
