Explore a fascinating selection of heritage homes across the Nelson region, showcasing architecture dating from the 1850s through to the early twentieth century. As you wander through these beautifully preserved properties, uncover the stories of the families who lived there and gain a deeper appreciation of Nelson’s rich cultural and architectural heritage.
This self-guided tour includes a delicious Devonshire tea, making it the perfect way to enjoy a leisurely day immersed in local history.

Tour Day Programme
A day of discovery, heritage and stories from Nelson’s past
10:00am – Tour Begins
Collect your tour booklet and map, then set off on your self-guided journey through 15 historic homes across Nelson.
Throughout the Day
Explore beautifully preserved heritage homes dating from the 1850s onwards and discover the stories behind each property, including the families, architecture and events that shaped them.
Along the way, enjoy:
Heritage displays, historic photographs and collection highlights
Live music and traditional crafts
Garden tours and special activities at selected homes
Opportunities to meet homeowners, Museum volunteers and local historians
Midday – 3:30pm - Devonshire Tea at The The Granary, Founders Park
Take a well-deserved break and enjoy a traditional Devonshire tea, included with your ticket.
All Day – 10:00am–4:00pm - Self-Guided Exploration
Create your own itinerary, visit the homes at your own pace and uncover the hidden stories behind some of Nelson’s treasured heritage properties.
