The Nelson Provincial Museum's collection is an extensive record of the region's social history and New Zealand's development. It forms a unique and detailed continuous documentation of the Nelson Tasman region.

Over 300,000 items are accessible through our Collections Online. The online collection includes photography from the 1860s to the present, maps and architectural plans, books and publications, archives and general social history items.

Nelson Photo News

ONLINE DATABASE

Search a full-text archive of The Nelson Photo News, a monthly magazine published between 1960 and 1974 providing a unique photographic window into life at that time.

This resource lets you:
- Browse all issues of the Nelson Photo News and read full editions

- View and print article transcripts or original magazine pages

Nelson Evening Mail

Geoffrey C Wood Collection

ONLINE DATABASE

Geoffrey C. Wood, a well-known photographer from Nelson in the 20th century, is famous for his portrait studio and his work as a photojournalist for the Nelson Evening Mail in the 1960s and 1970s.

The museum has approximately 650,000 film negatives in the collection, along with many 'proof books' he made for his work. These large books contain strips of small images from his film rolls. Over 40,000 pages have been digitised for online search.

This project was generously funded by The Nelson Civic Trust.

Standard image reproduction fees start at $30 per image. Fee waivers and discounts may be available - see our T&Cs for details. Our image ordering service is operated on a cost recovery basis to cover staff time and the digital infrastructure needed to make the service available.

Orders are invoiced using Shopify. We accept credit cards and online payments. Orders typically take two weeks once payment has been received. Digital images will be delivered to your inbox via Hightail file sharing software download link.
